5-Methoxyflavanone is a natural compound that has been shown to have antimicrobial properties. It is one of the two major active compounds found in Curcuma aromatica, which is also known as turmeric. 5-Methoxyflavanone has been shown to have covalent linkages with activated hCT116 cells, and it is thought to be responsible for its anticancer effects. This compound has also been shown to exhibit synchronous fluorescence in tissue culture, which may be due to its ability to bind DNA. The other major component of curcuma aromatica, curcumin, has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
