• Description: 2-Methylphenylacetic acid is an aliphatic hydrocarbon that has been shown to have vitro antifungal activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cryptococcus neoformans and Clostridium perfringens, two human pathogens. 2-Methylphenylacetic acid also reacts with chloride or sodium carbonate under basic conditions to form a nucleophilic attack on the fatty acid formyl group. This reaction leads to the formation of an enolate, which can react with a halide in a nucleophilic substitution reaction.
