Methyl 2,3-dihydroxybenzoate is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of organic compounds. It is a metabolite of hydroxybenzoic acid and has been shown to be an inhibitor of epidermal growth factor (EGF). The methyl group in the molecule inhibits the EGF receptor from binding to its ligand, which blocks the activity of EGF. Methyl 2,3-dihydroxybenzoate also has anti-leukemic properties and has been shown to inhibit the growth of leukemic cells in mice. This may be due to its ability to bind with factor receptors on cells and prevent their activation. The enzyme hydrolysis of methyl 2,3-dihydroxybenzoate occurs through trifluoroacetic acid or hydrochloric acid.
