N-Methyl-1,2-phenylenediamine is a solvent that can be used in the synthesis of proteins and other biomolecules. It has been shown to have maximal response at a pH of 5.5 and is an enzyme substrate for nitrogen atoms. The conformational properties of N-Methyl-1,2-phenylenediamine are determined by its solid-phase synthesis. NMR spectra show that N-Methyl-1,2-phenylenediamine has hydrogen bonding capabilities with other molecules such as water and hydrochloric acid. This substance also has fluorescence properties when exposed to ultraviolet light or hydrogen peroxide. Trichomonas vaginalis is inhibited by this compound because it causes the organism to lose its motility due to the hydrogen bonds formed with the hydroxyl groups on the surface of trichomonas vaginalis.
