NMR spectra show that N-Methyl-1,2-phenylenediamine has hydrogen bonding capabilities with other molecules such as water and hydrochloric acid. This substance also has fluorescence properties when exposed to ultraviolet light or hydrogen peroxide. Trichomonas vaginalis is inhibited by this compound because it causes the organism to lose its motility due to the hydrogen bonds formed with the hydroxyl groups on the surface of trichomonas vaginalis.
