Product Information
- Methyl 5-hydroxy-3-pyridinecarboxylate
- 5-Hydroxynicotinic acid methyl ester
- Methyl 5-Hydroxypyridine-3-Carboxylate
Methyl 5-hydroxynicotinate is a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist that is used to study the pharmacokinetic properties of acetylcholine. This drug binds to the amide group of the cholinergic enzyme and inhibits the enzyme’s ability to break down acetylcholine, which causes increased levels of this neurotransmitter in the brain. Methyl 5-hydroxynicotinate also interacts with GABA uptake, preventing its reuptake into neurons. Methyl 5-hydroxynicotinate has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth by binding to nicotinic receptors on cell membranes and inhibiting the release of calcium from intracellular stores.
