6-Methoxynicotinaldehyde is a reactive compound that is found in the form of an oil. It has been shown to have cellular and biological properties, as well as anticancer activity. 6-Methoxynicotinaldehyde has been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells by activating the mitochondrial pathway and inhibiting the PI3K/Akt pathway. It also induces oxidative stress, leading to cell death. The antioxidant effects of this compound may be due to its ability to scavenge free radicals such as hydroxyl radicals, superoxide radicals, and hydrogen peroxide. 6-Methoxynicotinaldehyde has also been shown to inhibit the proliferation of lung fibroblasts and human cancer cells. This compound is not active against normal cells, but does show some toxicity against glioblastoma cells.
