Description:Methyl 2,4-dihydroxy-6-pentylbenzoate is a synthetic compound that is used as a precursor for the synthesis of natural products such as orsellinic acid. It is insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. Methyl 2,4-dihydroxy-6-pentylbenzoate has been used to synthesize cannabinoids and has demonstrated neuroprotective effects in mice. The compound has also been shown to have antimicrobial properties against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium perfringens. Methyl 2,4-dihydroxy-6-pentylbenzoate is not active against acid fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
