9-Mesityl-10-methylacridinium tetrafluoroborate is an amine that reacts with an alkyne in the presence of light to form a 1,4-addition product. This reaction is catalyzed by a chiral ion pair, which has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of secondary and tertiary alcohols from terminal alkynes.
