N-methylanilinium trifluoroacetate is a heterocyclic compound that has been used as a synthetic intermediate in the synthesis of phosphotriesters. It has been shown to be useful as an efficient method for the preparation of guanine and cytosine, which are both components of DNA. N-Methylanilinium trifluoroacetate is synthesized by reacting dimethylamine with the corresponding acid chloride. This reaction forms an iminium salt, which is then hydrolyzed to give N-methylanilinium trifluoroacetate.
