Product Information
- Pyrimidine, 5-fluoro-2-methoxy-
2-Methoxy-5-fluoropyrimidine is a chemical compound that can be used as an enzyme inhibitor. It has been shown to decrease the activity of both aminoglycoside 3'-N-acetyltransferase and dihydropteroate synthase, which are enzymes involved in bacterial cell wall synthesis. The functional theory behind this inhibition is that 2-methoxy-5-fluoropyrimidine binds to the enzyme's active site and forms a covalent bond with it, preventing the transfer of acetyl groups or pteroic acid residues from ATP to the appropriate substrate. This bond cleaves the enzyme's catalytic activity and prevents it from forming a new peptide bond. The low energy required for this reaction makes it more favorable than other similar reactions, such as deamination, where high energy is needed. This process is reversible and can be reversed by adding more 2-methoxy-5-fluoropyrimidine
