Methyl 3-bromo-6-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carboxylate (MBT) is a potent inhibitor of histone deacetylase (HDAC). It is used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and brain injury. MBT has been shown to inhibit HDACs by binding to the zinc site on the enzyme and preventing it from removing acetyl groups from histones. This allows for increased gene expression and cell survival. MBT also inhibits the proteasome, which increases protein synthesis and decreases inflammation.
