Product Information
Name:4-Nitro-1-naphthol
Synonyms:
- 1-naphthalenol
- 4-nitro-
Brand:Biosynth
Description:4-Nitro-1-naphthol is a diazo compound that is formed by the reaction of 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid with phosphorus pentachloride. This reaction was found to be a stepwise proton transfer process. 4-Nitro-1-naphthol has significant cytotoxicity at high concentrations and is soluble in water. When heated with hydrochloric acid, it reacts to form 5-nitrosalicylic acid and hydrogen chloride gas. The molecular modeling studies showed that the hydrogen bonds between naphthalene and 4-nitro-1-naphthol are important for this reaction. The reaction products are 5 nitrosalicylic acid, 2 nitrous acid, and hydrogen chloride gas.
