Naphthalene-1,8-diol also inhibits the production of melanin and reduces the number of skin lesions in the wild-type strain of Galleria mellonella. Naphthalene-1,8-diol is an antioxidant compound that has been shown to protect against radiation and dermatitis. This molecule contains a hydroxyl group that can form hydrogen bonds with other molecules. This property may account for its anti-inflammatory effects.
