This compound can also be obtained from the reaction of nitrous acid with benzaldehyde in presence of a base catalyst. The structure of this molecule was first determined by magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). This synthetic compound can also be identified via ionization techniques such as electron impact (EI) or chemical analyses such as gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GCMS).
