Description:2-Naphthylmethylene methane 1,1-dicarbonitrile (2NMCD) is a zwitterionic cyclobutane. It is synthesized by the reaction of 2-naphthylmethylene bromide and carbon tetrachloride in acetonitrile. This synthesis results in a mixture of cis and trans isomers with yields of about 50%. The cis isomer has been shown to have control experiments and yields similar to those of the trans isomer.
