Neodymium nitrate hexahydrate (NdNO3) is a compound that has been shown to have anticancer activity. It is a neutral, water-insoluble solid with an anhydrous acetonitrile-water partition coefficient at pH 7 of 2.5. NdNO3 dissolves slowly in benzene and n-dimethyl formamide, but not in benzyl alcohol or ethylene diamine. The compound forms octahedral coordination complexes with hydrochloric acid, aluminium chloride and ammonium chloride. The optical properties of NdNO3 are sensitive to the type of solvent used: when dissolved in water it exhibits a green colour, whereas in organic solvents it exhibits a yellow colour. Neodymium nitrate hexahydrate is also capable of generating energy efficiently.
