Description:

Neomycin is an antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of proteins by binding to ribosomes and preventing the formation of peptide bonds. It has been shown to inhibit voltage-dependent calcium channels and polymerase chain reactions, which may be due to its ability to bind to RNA. Neomycin has also been used for a variety of metabolic disorders, including diabetes mellitus. This antibiotic is usually administered systemically, but it can also be used topically on skin infections. Neomycin is not active against bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics such as penicillin or erythromycin.
