Neoaureothin is a polyene macrolide antibiotic that is structurally related to erythromycin. It has immunosuppressive activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the methylation of DNA. Neoaureothin has been shown to have a number of biological activities, including tumor suppression and inhibition of nitro-induced mutagenesis in mammalian cells. Neoaureothin has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by interacting with hepg2 cells. Neoaureothin also inhibits the growth of autoimmune disease-causing cells and cancer cells in vitro.
