- 2,5-Pyrrolidinedione, 1-[(3-pyridinylcarbonyl)oxy]-
Nicotinic acid N-hydroxysuccinimide ester is an amide that is used as a precursor in the synthesis of chemokines. It can be used to radiolabel chemokines for detection with a gamma counter or by using metal hydroxides for their radioactive properties. Nicotinic acid N-hydroxysuccinimide ester has been shown to form disulfide bonds, which are important for the physiological function of proteins. This compound reacts with pyridinium ions and releases hydrogen sulfide gas, which can be detected by reaction with ferrous sulfate and ammonium persulfate in a plasma mass spectrometer.
