Nifursol is a polymerase chain inhibitor that binds to the RNA polymerase of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and leading to cell death. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of histomonas, which are a type of water-borne protozoan parasite. Nifursol has been shown to be effective in treating infectious diseases such as malaria and toxoplasmosis. The drug is not active against Chlamydia, Mycobacterium tuberculosis or other acid-fast bacteria. The binding affinity of nifursol was determined using analytical methods such as LC-MS/MS and Langmuir adsorption isotherm.
