2-Nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid is a molecule that binds to death receptors and inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory cytokine molecules. It is also a serine protease inhibitor, which blocks the activity of enzymes that are important for tumor growth. The macrocyclic inhibitors have been shown to inhibit tumor growth by binding to the kinase domain of receptor proteins and blocking their activity. 2-Nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid has been used in animal studies to treat ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, which is caused by excessive production of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). It also inhibits FSH production, leading to a decrease in ovarian size. This drug has been shown to be effective in reducing tumor size in mice with breast cancer, prostate cancer, and melanoma.
