Product Information
Name:2-Nitrodibenzothiophene
Synonyms:
- NSC 16062
Brand:Biosynth
Description:2-Nitrodibenzothiophene is a nitro compound that is metabolized to benzo[a]pyrene, which is a known carcinogen. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on the typhimurium bacteria and induce DNA strand breaks in E. coli. 2-Nitrodibenzothiophene is also mutagenic and can cause chromosomal aberrations in mammalian cells, such as 3-methylcholanthrene. This chemical has also been found to be toxic to the liver and cause liver toxicity in mice when given at high doses. The metabolism of 2-nitrodibenzothiophene is enhanced by oxygenation, which may account for its mutagenicity profile.
2-Nitrodibenzothiophene has been shown to inhibit uptake into rat hepatocytes, decreasing the metabolic activation of this substance and leading to lower mutagenic activity and reduced cytotoxicity in rats.
