Description:Norethindrone is a synthetic progestin that is used in oral contraceptives. Norethindrone has been shown to significantly up-regulate the expression of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products from a response element in human endometrial cells, suggesting that it may be involved in disease activity. In addition, norethindrone has been shown to inhibit the growth of various infectious microorganisms, including those responsible for diseases such as endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease.
