(S)-Nornicotine is a nicotine derivative that can be found in tobacco and other plants. It is a plant metabolite that has been shown to inhibit polymerase chain reactions in vitro by binding to the enzyme's active site. (S)-Nornicotine has also been shown to inhibit the binding of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) to the human serum, which may be due to hydrogen bonding interactions between its hydroxyl group and NAD. This drug is a potential carcinogen with the ability to induce transcriptional regulation.
