5-Norbornene-2-carboxaldehyde is an organic compound with the formula CH. It is a cyclopentyl monomer that can be used to make polymers, such as polynorbornene and poly(1,4-phenylene ether). 5-Norbornene-2-carboxaldehyde undergoes allylic oxidation to give cyclic ketones, which are useful precursors to other compounds. The reaction time of this reaction is dependent on the concentration of reactants and temperature. The oxidation products include ethanal, methyl ketones, and acetonitrile. 5-Norbornene-2-carboxaldehyde also undergoes dehydration reactions with alcohol dehydrogenases to produce ethanol and acetone; these reactions are catalyzed by protonation of the C=O bond.
