4-(4-Nitrobenzyl)pyridine is a chemical that can inhibit the activity of enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, and carboxylesterase. It has been shown to react with other molecules to form covalent bonds (alkylation), which may lead to inhibition of enzyme activities. 4-(4-Nitrobenzyl)pyridine has also been shown to have genotoxic effects on methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and solid tumours in animal tests. The drug has a high degree of toxicity and is carcinogenic in animals.
