It is also used as a catalyst for the polymerization of caproic acid and butyric acid to create polybutadiene-co-caprolactone (PBLC), which can be used to produce polyurethane foam and polyester fibers. Nonanophenone can be reversibly reduced to n-hexane by hydrogen gas or sodium borohydride.
