Product Information
Neoprzewaquinone A is a potent extractant that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cyanobacteria. The mechanism of inhibition is not known, but it has been hypothesized that neoprzewaquinone A may bind to the cell membrane and cause its lysis. Neoprzewaquinone A also inhibits malondialdehyde production in cells. It was found to have an inhibitory activity against bacterial strains such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis. This compound also inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria by binding to ribosomes and inhibiting the formation of peptides.
Neoprzewaquinone A is extracted from plant material using ethanol or other solvents. It can be used for the preparation of extracts or as a chemical intermediate for other compounds with similar structures.
