- 2-[(E)-2-nitroethenyl]thiophene
- (E)-2-(2-Nitroethenyl)Thiophene
Trans-2-(2-nitrovinyl)thiophene is an inhibitor of cinnamic acid derivatives. It is a potent inhibitor of cancer cells resistant to chemotherapy and can be used as a model system for cancer research. Trans-2-(2-Nitrovinyl)thiophene has been shown to selectively inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells, including human breast carcinoma cells (MDA-MB231), by blocking the synthesis of proteins required for cell division. In addition, trans-2-(2-nitrovinyl)thiophene inhibits the growth of prostate cancer cells (PC3). This compound is also effective against squaramide, a known carcinogenic compound that disrupts the synthesis of DNA in cells. Trans-2-(2-Nitrovinyl)thiophene can be used as a potential therapeutic agent in cancer treatment because it inhibits protein synthesis in drug resistant cancers and causes selective cell death in these cells.
