Product Information
- 1-Naphthalenepropanoic acid
- 3-(1-Naphthyl)propanoic acid
The chemical compound 3-(1-naphthyl)propanoic acid belongs to the class of organic compounds known as N-acyl amides. The compound is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and reacts with strong bases to form salts. It has been shown to be active against influenza virus, but is inactive against other viruses such as herpes simplex virus type 1, adenovirus, and vesicular stomatitis virus. 3-(1-Naphthyl)propanoic acid has been shown to inhibit the replication of influenza A virus in cell culture by binding to the viral RNA polymerase (RdRP) enzyme and blocking its activity. This inhibition prevents RNA synthesis and thus protein synthesis. The compound also inhibits the expression of influenza A virus proteins, which may be due to its ability to inhibit ribosomal RNA transcription.
