4-Nitrobenzyl Acetoacetate is a benzyl ester that can be synthetically prepared by the reaction of nitrobenzene with acetic anhydride. It is a complex molecule, which can be used to introduce a functional group onto a molecule. This compound has been shown to have anti-leukemic properties in leukemia hl-60 cells and transesterification reactions. 4-Nitrobenzyl Acetoacetate has also been shown to have l-type calcium channel blocking activity.
