(R)-(-)-1-(1-Naphthyl)ethyl Isocyanate is a chiral molecule, which can be used as a building block for preparation of enantiomerically pure amines and fatty acids. The compound is soluble in hexane, but not in water. It has been shown to be a useful reagent for the preparation of diacylglycerol derivatives. It has also been shown to be an effective fluorescent probe for fluorescence detector applications with high sensitivity and long lifetime. (R)-(-)-1-(1-Naphthyl)ethyl Isocyanate is prepared by reacting 1-naphthylethylamine with phosgene or chloroformates and then hydrolyzing the resulting carbamoyl chloride.
