Product Information

Name:
1H,1H-Nonafluoro-1-pentanol
Synonyms:
  • (Perfluorobutyl)methanol1H,1H-Perfluoro-1-pentanol
  • 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5,5-Nonafluoropentan-1-Ol
Description:

Nonafluoro-1-pentanol is a hydrophobic liquid that is miscible with water. It has a low vapor pressure, which makes it suitable as an industrial solvent. Nonafluoro-1-pentanol can also be used in the production of surfactants, which are chemicals that reduce surface tension and help form emulsions. This chemical is biodegradable and nonpersistent in the environment and it does not react with other solutes or dissolve in water. Nonafluoro-1-pentanol is used in fluoroalkylation reactions to introduce carbon chains into organic molecules. The ring opening of this chemical leads to perfluorinated compounds with hydrogenated rings, which have low densities and high thermal expansion coefficients.
