Nuarimol is a fungicide that belongs to the group of phenylpyrroles. It inhibits the growth of fungi by binding to the sterols in the fungal cell membrane, thereby inhibiting lipid synthesis and membrane integrity. Nuarimol also acts as a synergist with other fungicides, such as
chlorothalonil, captan, and thiophanate-methyl. Nuarimol is effective against wild-type strains of fungi but not resistant mutants. The toxicological studies in rats have shown that nuarimol is well tolerated at doses up to 1000 mg/kg body weight. The effective dose for humans has been found to be 1-2 mg/kg body weight per day. Nuarimol has been shown to have no genotoxic activity in human serum or mammalian cells in vitro but may cause fatty acid accumulation at high doses. Nuarimol can be analyzed using gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection
