3-Amino-5-bromo-benzofuran-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (ABE) is a chemical compound that has been shown to have antioxidant activity. ABE scavenges free radicals and inhibits the formation of aldehydes, ketones, and other reactive oxygen species. It also has antimicrobial activities against bacteria and fungi. ABE can be used as an analytical reagent for the determination of aldehydes and ketones in organic solvents. ABE is not active against Gram negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Escherichia coli.
