Description

3-Oxo-cyclobutanecarboxylic acid is a synthetic β-amino acid that is used as an activating agent in the synthesis of stereoisomers. It can be synthesized from glutamic acid and n-dimethyl formamide. 3-Oxo-cyclobutanecarboxylic acid can also be recycled from methylbenzene and cyclobutanol. The substrate concentration should be high to produce this product, and it requires hydrochloric acid for the reaction to proceed. This chemical is used industrially in the production of anhydrous sodium tetroxide and fatty acids, which are used as surfactants in various applications such as soap.
