Orobol is a natural product that inhibits the enzyme dopamine β-hydroxylase, which is involved in the conversion of dopamine to norepinephrine. Orobol has been shown to inhibit viral replication and cancer cell viability. It also has been used as an analytical method for the determination of metabolic disorders and other diseases. Orobol was isolated from a fermentation culture of Pseudomonas sp. W-7 by preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). This compound is obtained by extraction with methanol solvent followed by purification using a column chromatography technique. The purified product is then dissolved in water and injected into the reaction solution. This reaction solution can be analyzed using an ultraviolet spectrophotometer or fluorescence detector, such as a wst-1 assay or human immunoglobulin binding assay.
