Description

1-O-Tetradecyl-rac-glycerol is a fatty acid ester that is used as a conditioning agent and a hydroxylated alcohol. The fatty acid ester is derived from 1-O-tetradecanoyl-racemic glycerol, which is an ester of the fatty acids, oleic acid and palmitic acid. The hydroxy group on the molecule allows it to be soluble in water. It also has transport properties because it can dissolve in lipids and penetrate hair follicles. It can also act as a solid catalyst for citric acid production and malic acid production because of its hydroxyl groups.
