Product Information
- (2S)-2-Methoxy-3-octadecoxypropan-1-ol
A synthetic chiral reagent, 1-O-octadecyl-2-O-methyl-sn-glycerol (1OMS) is a nonracemic mixture of two enantiomers that can be used as a chiral shift reagent. It is an alkyl moiety with 18 carbon atoms and has the ability to form conjugates with lipids or unsaturated alkyls. When 1OMS is incubated with lung fibroblasts, it induces a shift in the position of d-mannitol on thin layer chromatography plates and alters the optical rotation by changing the orientation of the alkyl chains in the cell membrane. This activity may be due to its ability to interfere with lipid synthesis or to alter membrane fluidity.
