(5Z)-7-Oxozeaenol is a natural product that inhibits the transcription factor nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) by binding to toll-like receptor 4. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of mesenchymal cells, leading to an increase in markers for epithelial mesenchymal transition. (5Z)-7-Oxozeaenol also induces apoptosis in breast cancer cells, specifically MDA-MB-231 cells. It activates protein kinase A and inhibits protein kinase C. This compound also inhibits the production of vasoactive intestinal peptide and TNF-α. The inhibition of these proteins leads to a decrease in cell growth and proliferation.
