• Description: Octylonium bromide is an otilonium-based compound that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of bowel disease. Octylonium bromide inhibits inflammatory and non-inflammatory bowel disease by inhibiting the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα), IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8. Octylonium bromide also controls the signal pathways involved in the release of these cytokines. Octylonium bromide has been shown to have a statistically significant effect on diabetic neuropathy and urinary incontinence. This drug is absorbed through the stomach and small intestine into the blood stream. It then enters cells where it binds to specific sites on receptors, such as the neurokinin-1 receptor (NK1R).
