Olopatadine N-oxide is metabolized by human liver microsomes to form olopatadine, which is the active form of the drug. The n-oxide metabolite has been shown to have no activity. Olopatadine N-oxide inhibits histamine release from mast cells, which results in relief of allergy symptoms.
