Description

Obatoclax mesylate is a pro-apoptotic drug that inhibits the proliferation of tumor cells by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. It is effective in the treatment of solid tumours and has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of carcinoma cell lines. Obatoclax mesylate binds to the mitochondrial membrane potential, inhibiting the release of cytochrome c, which leads to apoptosis. Obatoclax mesylate has also been shown to bind to inhibitory proteins in cancer cells and cause an increase in levels of pro-apoptotic protein Bax. This drug has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, as it can inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
