2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-Octafluoro-1-pentanol is a fluorinated alcohol that can be used as a reaction intermediate in the synthesis of cellulose derivatives. It is also used as an organic solvent and has been shown to have toxicity profiles in cell culture. 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-Octafluoro-1-pentanol has been observed to react with sodium ions to form linear model compounds. Long term toxicity studies have shown that 2FAOP does not cause adverse effects on the liver or kidney function in rats. This chemical is toxic when ingested orally and causes irritation of the skin and eyes. The Friedel-Crafts reaction between 2FAOP and anhydrous sodium gives rise to 1H-tetrazole. Reaction products include: 1H-tetrazole
