Description:

Oxalic acid monoethyl ester is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in organic solvents. It has been used as an anti-cancer agent, although it can also be used to produce the aziridine-based drugs such as ethyl diazoacetate. Oxalic acid monoethyl ester reacts with phosphorus pentachloride to form phosphorus oxychloride and ethyl diazoacetate. The reaction of oxalic acid monoethyl ester with ethyl malonate produces ethyl diazoacetate and malonic acid. Oxalic acid monoethyl ester can be used as an organic catalyst for many reactions, including the oxidation of alcohols, thiols, and amines.
