Orobol 3',4'-dimethyl ether is a compound that inhibits the translation of protein by binding to the ribosome. This leads to reduced production of proteins and disruption of cellular functions, which can be used as an anticancer agent. The compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, including human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells. It also inhibits cell proliferation by preventing the activation of phosphorylation-dependent transcription factors. Orobol 3',4'-dimethyl ether is currently being investigated for its ability to treat hepatitis, which may be due to its ability to inhibit endoplasmic reticulum enzymes that are necessary for protein synthesis.
