3-Pentyn-1-OL is a reactive oxygenated organic compound that reacts with inorganic substrates. The reaction rate for this type of compound is dependent on the concentration of the substrate and the presence of other reactants. 3-Pentyn-1-OL has been shown to inhibit pancreatic lipase through reversible binding. This inhibition study was done using inorganic compounds such as sodium chloride, potassium phosphate, and magnesium sulfate. 3-Pentyn-1-OL also inhibits the activity of porcine pancreatic lipase by an irreversible mechanism. 3-Pentyn-1-OL is an organometallic compound that has been shown to react with thiamine pyrophosphate and fatty acids, which are essential cofactors for lipases.
