This product can then undergo metathesis reactions with acetic acid or anhydrous sodium to form 2,5-dimethylhexane or 2,4,6-trimethylheptane respectively. The compound also reacts with hydroxyl groups in proteins and nucleic acids such as DNA or RNA, forming n-oxides that have resonance energies in the infrared region of the spectrum.
