Description:1,3-Phenylene bismaleimide is a chemical compound that is soluble in nonpolar solvents and reacts with calcium carbonate to form a solid precipitate. It can be used for the removal of calcium carbonate from water and wastewater. 1,3-Phenylene bismaleimide reacts with the magnesium oxide to produce magnesium chloride, which is soluble in water. The reaction also produces diphenyl ethers as byproducts. This process can be accomplished without the need for hydrochloric acid or lanthanum.
